VOLUNTEER

The Heart To Heart mission is a project in which individuals, church, and civic groups can participate. There are several ways to contribute your time and effort to this cause. BE AWARE that our volunteers are supporting the work of the case managers at the shelter – they DO NOT WORK at the shelter or have direct contact with the abuse victims. If you are looking to volunteer at the shelter, please contact the YWCA directly.

  1. Volunteer Coordinator (5 to 10 hours/week)
Our Volunteer Coordinator recruits volunteers, answers questions about volunteering, sets up trainings for new volunteers and oversees supplies at the storage unit. The Volunteer Coordinator commits to volunteering for two to three months at a time. Send an e-mail to the Volunteer Coordinator.
  2. Secret Shoppers (4 to 6 hours/month)
Our Secret Shoppers shop for supplies for the assorted sets. Secret Shoppers volunteer for one month at a time.
  3. Kit Assembly Volunteers (2 to 4 hours/month)
Kit Assembly Volunteers meet at the storage unit on a weekend once a month for a few hours and put together the supply sets. This is a great team building experience for offices, school classes and book clubs! Kit assembly days or “stuffing parties” are scheduled monthly through our Volunteer Coordinator. Groups or individuals can volunteer for one or several months, as their time and interest allows.
  4. Monthly Elf (4 to 6 hours/month)
The monthly elf receives email from the Volunteer Coordinator or YWCA case manager each Thursday and is responsible for assembling the children’s sets each week by Sunday evening. This is a monthly assignment that a group could share. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator for details.
  5. Hold a supply-gathering drive where participants contribute individual items from the Heart To Heart Supply Sets. If you’d like to hold a drive for supplies, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator and see what’s needed! Sometimes stuffed animals or children’s books are needed, sometimes it’s blankets or dish sets! What a great way to get your friends and community involved in supporting victims of domestic abuse!
