Maria
Maria was pregnant and had her two small children with her when she came to the shelter. She came to escape a mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive relationship with the man she lived with for the last five years. He attempted to keep her in this relationship by removing the battery from her car and getting her fired from her job. He physicallly harmed her to the point her doctor was afraid her baby would be born prematurely from the trauma. Her doctor suggested Maria go to a shelter. Maria left with nothing but her children in hand.
When Maria arrived at the shelter, we were able to provide her with an Infant Bag that contained, among other things, bottles, blankets and sleepers. When she left the shelter to go into a transitional apartment, we supplied her with a Cleaning Set so she could pass the required weekly inspections. When she moved into permanent housing, we were able to provide pillows and blankets, as well as kitchen and bathroom supplies to help Maria and her children start their new life.
Rita
Rita was a 23 year-old woman who entered a women's shelter with her two children after being physically assaulted and thrown out of her home in the middle of the night by her boyfriend of two years. With the help of the shelter, Rita was able to regain the stability she had lost and obtain safe and affordable housing. Rita received five Supply Sets from Heart To Heart to begin her life anew.
Denise
Denise's boyfriend was physically and verbally abusive. He stole her birth certificate and photo id to keep her from trying to leave him. After entering a women's shelter, support staff was able to help her acquire a new birth certificate and photo id after some weeks, and she was able to secure a job and subsidized housing. Also pregnant, Denise received all four Heart To Heart Supply Sets to ensure a good start to a new life with her baby.
This is what Heart To Heart is all about. Through donations of time, supplies, and money, we are able to help women start over. Equally important, we believe, is that our efforts send a message of hope, showing these women that people care.
